Carbon Sponge

Carbon Sponge is a collective research practice — a collaboration among artists, farmers, scientists, agroecologists, educators, and the public — focused on building carbon-rich, living soil. Since 2018 it has developed open protocols anyone can use to track soil carbon over time, working with crops like sorghum to grow and hold carbon in the ground.

In 2025, Carbon Sponge relocated its headquarters to Wally Farms, carrying years of soil-stewardship work into the Hudson Valley.
